The charm of the sunken courtyard is produced by the slope difference between the courtyard and the green space at the bottom of the villa.
Traditional Chinese garden design pays attention to the charm of winding paths, which can be experienced to some extent in the sunken courtyard. Compared with the unobstructed level courtyard design, this hidden courtyard is implicit and unique. At the same time, although it is outdoors because it “sinks” under the house, it can give people a strong sense of belonging just like entering a garden. One end is connected to nature, and the other end is the warm home life. This courtyard is built with high and low levels to bring a richer sense of vision and use possibilities to space.
This scattered courtyard has a large area. The design highlight is that it is not a closed sunken courtyard. Through the design of different heights and staggering steps, space is divided into three functional areas, and the courtyard is effectively used everywhere. First of all, the designer chose the upper terrace with a good view as the leisure area and created a comfortable outdoor leisure space by placing a set of comfortable outdoor furniture and a parasol.
In the wide square area of the lower courtyard, the designer has placed a barbecue table against the wall, and a set of long outdoor tables and chairs are placed in the wide space next to it as a place for daily barbecue gatherings; a staircase connecting the upper and lower floors Nearby, the open space is also well used, and a set of iron furniture adds a place for casual chatting to the outdoor party.
In order to reduce the trouble of daily maintenance, the courtyard is dominated by hard pavement, so the designer dotted many potted plants in every corner to inject vitality and colorful colors into space. At the same time, besides the dining area, the designer also designed a waterscape, which is not only a focal point, but the gurgling sound of water also brings aural pleasure.
